Daily Life

I woke this morning to hear the clip clop of horses hooves echoing down the street. Pilgrims on horseback are becoming more common. I wonder where they house them whilst in SantiagošŸ¤”

Daylight is beginning to spread over the town and pilgrims’ excited voices are turning into song. I understand the excitement but it’s so annoying for the locals who don’t generally rise until much later. They don’t realise they are walking past people’s’ houses. I love it though. It’s so good to see people having fun.

Rubbish collection happens every morning too. No wheelie bins like at home. There are dump masters (big bins) in the street, and you take your rubbish out to them instead. So, it’s hard to sleep in here with the noise of the rubbish trucks, the sound of pilgrims and the bar across the road. The owner drags every chair and table across the path and takes forever to set up- same at night when he closes. Voices echo and bounce off the stone walls and music is loud. I love everything about it.

I’ve slipped easily into daily life here. I stay out late and get up late. I’ve been eating way too much and had a great time in my favourite tapas bar last night with Patti and her friend Nancy.

I finally caught up with a very tired Shanta afterwards. She has been moving house whilst still running her beautiful little restaurant. Gosh I can’t believe it has been 5 years since I was here last. We all have an extra wrinkle or two but are still the same.

I really like who I am when I am here.

  1. I’m really enjoying your updates thank you

Your last sentence is very powerful and moving for all the right reasons.

I’m waiting on a little heart op and then new left knee. So the Camino will see me in Sep 2025.

      1. I’ve had the right done. Many dramas with that but waiting on left now. And yes I can’t hike but I can drive to explore luckily. Can only walk maybe a k for now but no stopping me after left knee is done.
