It’s Raining

So it’s a very rainy day here today, I practically had to swim into town to meet my breakfast date. … lovely Canadian lady who reached out to me. It never ceases to amaze me that Canadians are so much like Australians. We get on so well and have a similar attitude to life.

Sitting in a cafe, I looked up to see Bill’s poster advertising the screening of his movie here in Santiago. It is signed by all involved. A sense of pride and love hit me as I thought about my wonderful friends that I’ve met through the camino. There is a thread that sews us all together as a community and I feel so much richer for having these friendships.

Anyway, I spent a lovely few hours with my new friend Brenda, soaking up the atmosphere in this beautiful cafe furnished with eclectic chairs and tables. The rain was pounding on the clear glass roof and we sat in the warm cosy environment, laughing and chatting as if we had known each other for years. This is how life is in Spain, on the camino, and people are so friendly.

I need to take care of some mundane domestic things today. I need make sure I haven’t killed Gonzalo’s plants and give them a drink. I need to do some washing and I need to buy an umbrella!

Gonzalo presented me with a bag I had left with him for safe keeping 5 years ago, as I intended to return within a year and didn’t count on Covid robbing us all of a few years. It was like opening a Xmas present! All my hiking gear was in the bag. I was wondering where it had gone, and forgotten about this🤦🏻‍♀️. but joy of joys, my red rain jacket was in there, and a fleece jumper, so I now have something warm to wear as it is so cold at the moment.

I’m now sitting in Pilgrim House using their internet and enjoying their beautiful music. I noticed in the meditation room that my book is still on the bookshelf. Yay! But I need to move and get things done, so I’ll finish here with the thought that although it’s raining, it’s also raining with comforting friendships and a feeling that a power above is looking after me. I continue to pinch myself to ensure this is real. I am so grateful.
