The Vortex

I sit down to write this and notice that it’s 11.11 pm. Auspicious, being the first blog of my trip. I had a really smooth run here and everything went like clockwork. I even had time for a shower in Dubai airport during my layover. Had a wonderful time people watching at the airport . Im always fascinated at the herding mentality of people as they queue up hoping to get on the plane first, get off the plane first, or get to the baggage collection first….they then have to wait just like everyone else. The variety of characters was really interesting and the call to prayer gave me goosebumps (or chicken skin as Leo calls it). The haunting sound produces such an electric atmosphere. I love it.

The BEST thing happened today though. I was upgraded (for no reason) on the second leg of the trip from Dubai! There I was in Business Class, window seat and front row. Champagne as soon as I sat down, surround sound headphones for the movie screen, and OMG the Fooood!! Champagne, Arabic mezzo platter, pan seared steak medallion in a thyme jus with broccoli and mashed potato, raspberry and chocolate mousse cake with berry coulis, and a cheeseboard. I had to pinch myself.

Everything went so unexpectedly easily and the flow made my heart sing. I’m staying the night in Madrid and will catch the train tomorrow to Santiago. Nothing witty to add . Too busy concentrating on getting g through this part of the journey. Let the fun begin.
