The Birthday

Yes, I had another birthday here in Spain and I was so spoiled. I didn’t tell many people as I was terrified that someone would organize a party and we all know how I hate parties! Unbeknown to me, that was indeed happening but thank goodness it didn’t go to plan and never eventuated. Instead,I spent the day with Monica and Gonzalo, and we went on a mystery road trip.

The day began with Monica taking me to have American pancakes at Bar Tertulia. We sat and gorged on a pancake stack smothered with real maple syrup and meringue cream. The accessory of rich dark chocolate sat untouched beside it, even though it was screaming out my name, and I washed it all down with a cup of cafe con leche. The waiter made me a special one. Wonderful!

next thing I knew, we were hurtling along the highway heading for destinations unknown. Spanish music blaring in the car and glimpses of forests, farms and tiny towns added to the fun and we finally came to a stop at the ”glass beach’. We clambered down to the water’s edge and spent the next half an hour playing with the beautiful green glass pebbles made smooth and shiny by the ocean’s waves. Looked like pretty jewels beneath our feet. It really was so pretty!

we went on and had lunch at Laxe in a posh seafood restaurant. Gonzalo organized a cake with candles and the whole restaurant sang happy birthday to me!

Moved on for a walk on the beautiful white sandy beach and dip our toes into the Atlantic Ocean (bit too cold and windy).

And after the long drive home, I found the neighbours from over the back waiting with a cake! We invited them in and were then joined by the next door neighbours. We partied! Our lovely landlord turned up with an enormous chunk of smelly blue cheese for me. It was so delicious! What a great day!!!
