I’m staying in a hotel right on the canal. From my room, I can see ducks on the water, and a white swan with her signets. Little Ashleigh would be impressed! The water is so crystal clear that the pebbles on the bottom are easily visible, and it is full of trout. They are about one foot long, and there are so many of them. I feel like I could just reach out and pick one up!
I spent the day wandering the city. It is actually quite huge, and it’s full of tourists. Most people seem to ride bikes, as the town itself is very flat. Huge mountains loom in the distance and I am very glad that I don’t have to climb them! Annecy is called the Venice of France because of its canals and arched bridges. Restaurants line the canals and there are beautiful hanging baskets all along the edge.
I chatted to a guy down by the lake, who took me out on his boat for 1/2 an hour. It was so beautiful and peaceful. The water is a real aqua blue. I’ve never seen a body of water that colour before. Just like in the pictures above. I have not photoshopped them.
The other thing I noticed is that although I don’t see the familiar brass scallop shells placed in the cobblestones any more, I see the town emblem of the trout!
I actually had to come back for a nana nap this afternoon. Seems I’m winding down and I’m feeling quite exhausted. Eating proper food now too, which is such a treat. That would be the only negative about the Camino-the food is awful. Anyway, off to dinner now. A bientot! xx
